Jurassic World — The Ride is taking guests out of Universal Studios Hollywood and into the Jurassic World universe. See the latest details about the park’s Jurassic World ride mega-attraction.

News about the new Jurassic World ride at Universal Studios Hollywood has been kept tightly under wraps over the past several months. Fans have kept an eye on the construction in the park and are eager to learn more about how guests will be transported into Jurassic World.

Ahead of its grand opening this summer, Universal Studios Hollywood revealed a first-look at its newest “mega attraction”: Jurassic World – The Ride.  Bringing theme park guests into the park of Jurassic World, the highly anticipated ride “will immerse guests into newly themed environments and breathe new life into dimensional animatronic dinosaurs, including some all-new fan favorites featured in the Jurassic World films from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment.”

Described as being ambitious, the ride was reimagined under the direction of Universal Creative, an Academy Award-winning special effects team at Industrial Light & Magic (part of Lucasfilm. Ltd.), and Universal Pictures, along with filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Frank Marshall.

What happens on Jurassic World – The Ride?

A new storyline is coming to Jurassic World – The Ride and the state-of-the-art attraction will bring guests from Universal Studios Hollywood into the Jurassic World theme park as seen in the movie. Riders can expect to come face-to-face with dinosaurs from the Jurassic World film, along with the park’s “lush scenic design.” The ride itself is said to feature “ground-breaking technology that has yet to be experienced within a theme park.”

Not only will the aesthetics of the ride itself be reimagined, but the exterior spaces, ride line, and surrounding area will also be designed to be reflective of the Jurassic World films. Fans will first enter under the marquee logo outside of the ride, which will be held up by the iconic pillars featuring billowing flames on top.

While waiting in the queue, you’ll watch engaging videos with information about the dinosaurs within the ride that will help pull you out of Universal Studios Hollywood’s park and into the park from the Jurassic World films. Then, you’ll set off on your expedition and board specially-designed rafts that will lead you and the other people in your group through “lush environs of dense vegetation” where dinosaurs could be just an arm’s length away.

You’ll first see more tame creatures like the Stegosaurus and Parasaurolophus, but things will quickly turn chaotic when Velociraptors and Dilophosaurus start wreaking havoc, turning you from a park guest into their next meal (maybe you can redirect their attention to some nearby butterbeer?). You’ll continue your journey through Jurassic World, and you’ll soon meet a Tyrannosaurus rex who will then battle “one of the attraction’s new behemoth dinosaurs.” Just like the previous Jurassic Park ride, you’ll then go over the 84-foot waterfall to escape.

Next to the ride will be a new “Raptor Encounter” – something that’s already a fan-favorite experience in the park — where Blue and her beta Raptors will meet with guests face-to-face. Be sure to listen to all of the raptor trainers though so that the raptors don’t act out and get too close.

In addition to Jurassic World – The Ride and the Raptor Encounter, there will also be a new interactive “Dino Play” area, which “will incorporate educational components within an inspired space” for children (and adults) of all ages to participate in excavations and study dinosaur fossils.
