Knightfall Season 2 will premiere tonight on the HISTORY. Here is everything you need to remember from Season 1 before tuning in.

Tonight is the night! Luke Skywalker will put down the lightsaber and pick up the sword. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself there. Knightfall Season 2 will premiere tonight on HISTORY and if you’re like me, you can’t wait.

There is a decent amount we need to remember from the first season, however. The events that played out in the last few episodes were pivotal to the set up of the second season. So, prior to the tonight’s season premiere, let’s quickly recap on everything we need to remember.

More from Drama

OK. So the first and obvious thing to remember is the relationship between France and the Knights Templar is, to put it politely, tense. The sides went to war with one another in the Season 1 finale. The Templars won the battle, but the war is certainly not over.

During the battle, Queen Joan of France and Navarre was killed by her husband, King Philip IV of France. She was pregnant with Knights Templar leader Landry du Lauzon’s child. The baby was saved, delivered via C-section.

Other events that played out during the battle was the Holy Grail was recovered but also destroyed. Landry tried to use the Holy Grail to save Joan. It obviously didn’t work, he broke it, but what was found inside left us with the biggest question of all.

Among the pieces of the smashed Holy Grail was a scroll. A scroll with a list of names. Templar Master Berenger was the one to discover the scroll, he then subsequently swallowed the evidence.

Other important moments to remember from the season prior to the finale include Pope Boniface VIII as the man behind most of the horrors playing out under the Templars noses. In an effort to secure the Holy Grail he masqueraded as the notorious V. After being discovered, he attempted to have Landry excommunicated, a sentence that would result in him being burned at the stake.

The Pope used the fact Landry had broke his vows and fathered a child with Queen Joan of France and Navarre against him. Landry was almost executed, he was only saved because of what his mother told the Pope about the Grail.

Also, Gawain, once a Templar, is now fighting against him. He joined King Philip IV of France’s side after William de Nogaret, who is also still kicking about by the way and pulling many puppet strings, convinced him to come over.

So, in a nutshell, the important things you will need to remember are:

  • The Templars are basically at war with France
  • Landry has been excommunicated but not executed because of something the Pope was told
  • We have no idea what the Pope was told
  • The Holy Grail contained a scroll with names unbeknown to us
  • De Nogaret and Gawain are still kicking about and expected to cause trouble

Hopefully, I’ve covered everything. If there is anything I’ve missed out from Season 1 that you think should be mentioned prior to watching Season 2, then let me know by dropping a comment below.
