DC Universe to unlock digital comic library, expands content slate
Breaking news from #WonderCon! The DC Universe is unlocking a massive digital comics library and expanding its content slate. Here’s what we know about Swamp Thing, Stargirl, Titans season 2, and much more.
At DC Universe’s WonderCon panel, it was revealed that DC Universe has “unveiled a slate of new features and programming updates for the first-of-its-kind digital subscription service”. DC Universe members will now have access to DC’s massive digital comics library, a library that holds 20,000 “single issue comics published over 80 years,” and more will be continuously added.
Individual comic issues published a year prior to any given date will be available on the platform starting in April 2019 (the exact launch will be announced shortly). Despite the new content added, DC Universe will not be increasing the price of the subscription.

“From the time DC Universe launched last year, our fans have loved the comic experience and have asked us for just one thing – more! The expansion to thousands of titles in January 2019 was a first step in our goal to deliver on that request, to provide DC Universe members full access to the pantheon of DC’s epic Super Hero stories,” said DC Universe Senior Vice President and General Manager, Sam Ades. “We’re thrilled to respond to our fans yet again with the incredible value of the ultimate DC digital comics library.”
DC Universe upcoming content slate
DC Universe also revealed the upcoming original live-action series Swamp Thing will premiere on May 31, 2019. Production is currently ongoing in Wilmington, North Carolina, and Mark Verheiden teased that goal of the show is “to scare the living hell out of you.” And based on the preview shown in the WonderCon panel — we believe him 110%.
The panel also unveiled a first-look image of Stargirl in her costume from the upcoming original live-action series Stargirl that’s set to debut in early 2020. Her super suit was designed by renowned costume designer Laura Jean Shannon (Titans, Doom Patrol, Black Lightning, and Jumanji).
Along with this news, the critically acclaimed series Titans will return to the platform with a second season in fall 2019, with the animated series Harley Quinn following in late fall 2019.
Additionally, it was announced that the first series of the drama Krypton will make its debut on the platform on April 5, 2019 — and the entire season will be available to binge all at once.
Finally, the animated, original film Justice League vs. The Fatal Five will debut very soon on April 16. And last but not least, the mid-season premiere of Young Justice: Outsiders will be available on July 2, 2019, returning to the platform with 13 remaining episodes.
