Jonathan reunites with Lilith in Edom

If you thought you had Jonathan Morgerstern all figured out, you’d better check yourself before “Stay With Me,” because JM is not here to play around. We see new sides to his manipulative personality in Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16 that leaves us with more questions than answers. His primary goal is still to get his hands on the Morningstar Sword, and we see him navigate past (and new) alliances to help him reach his goal.

Jonathan is focused on securing meetings that are a little out-of-this-realm, and like we’ve seen from the released photos, he’ll travel to Edom where he’ll reunite with Lilith. We can’t reveal too much about why he’s gone to see his mother, but his behavior once in Edom — and his reason for being there — will likely catch you by surprise. We love getting to see Anna Hopkins return to our screens as Lilith, and make sure you pay attention to the Edom details she reveals because there are a few major hints about how additional storylines could potentially weave together as we move toward the season finale.

Jonathan makes a very specific deal that he thinks will move him closer to the sword, but as with everything, his journey leads him into the middle of something more chaotic than what he’d planned. There are several moments in the episode where we see the strength of the life-force rune, and the pain that Clary can feel because of Jonathan’s actions is still a prominent plot point throughout the growing conflicts. Get ready for several visual moments straight out of a horror movie, because we see a whole other side to Jonathan that’s going to leave you with your jaw on the floor.
