2. Jessie hopes to stay sober.

Still in the hospital for her kidney troubles, Jessie and Conrad share a super sweet moment together. Tearfully, Jessie promises she’s going to stay sober this time if her kidneys get better. Conrad tells her there is no reason for her not to stay optimistic, but I’m definitely worried about Jessie’s life expectancy at this point.

She also gets a nice scene with Nic and apparently picks up on the vibes Alec is sending her, though she prefers Conrad as her doctor (something about Alec is off, so I don’t blame her). At one point, Jessie says Nic’s love life is more interesting than her kidneys, which is funny because I find Jessie’s story arc far more entertaining than anything involving Alec.

1. Nic and Conrad are still at a standstill.

If you were hoping Nic’s curt rejection of Alec last week meant things would get back on track between Nic and Conrad, then I’m sorry to disappoint you but it doesn’t appear it will be that easy. They butt heads this week on a treatment plan for a DNR patient named Donna who has her hopes set on hospice. The storm puts a halt on her plans and before it can clear, Donna crashes.

Not wanting her to go into septic shock or be miserable the rest of the evening (especially if her mysterious visitor and first love, Bob, shows up) Nic requests Bell operate on Donna despite Conrad’s vehement disapproval. His argument is that they should uphold her written wishes while Nic argues that what Donna told her while she was still awake was in line with a woman who would want to be saved so she could see Bob and go to hospice.

Conrad thinks she should be kept in her room on meds, but Nic goes behind his back. Bell is able to perform the operation successfully and Donna recovers, able to breathe on her own off machines and everything.

Still, Conrad doesn’t necessarily think Nic did the right thing. That said, he can agree he wasn’t right either. Both of them would rather move past their fight but it leaves all their problems still there. They keep buried them like the episode’s storm, something will always wash away the dirt and all those problems will still be there.

We don’t get any resolution between them this week but it looks like the next episode will feature some hard conversations between everyone’s favorite #CoNic. Will they be able to move forward in their relationship?

Odds & Ends

  • I love the fact Donna waited all those years just to tell Bob to go to hell. Iconic.
  • Mina says she felt a fondness towards the little girl in this episode because she reminded her of her sisters. I had a feeling it was why she found the daughter so brave!

A new episode of The Resident titled, “Black Cloud”, premieres April 15 at 8/7c on FOX.
