The Supernatural Season 5 finale certainly brought some important moments for the Winchesters and rounded out the five-year story. Here are the five best lines from Episode 22.

Supernatural Season 5, Episode 22 was Eric Kripke’s swan song. Bringing an end to a five-season story, it gave us everything we would need to say goodbye. It’s time to look at the best lines from the episode.

This was certainly an important episode for all. We got to see more of that brotherly bond, coming full circle from when Dean came back into Sam’s life. While it wasn’t Kripke’s original planned ending, it was one that we could respect. Here are my favorite lines from “Swan Song.”

This 1967 Chevrolet Impala would turn out to be the most important car – no, the most important object – in pretty much the whole universe.

More from Supernatural

Chuck begins the episode with a story about the Impala. There is much more to the line, but it’s this part that stands out the most. The Impala is more than just a car. It’s the most important “object” in the “whole universe.”

At the start of the episode, we get the idea Baby is important because it’s the mode of transport for the Winchesters. Over the course of the story, we learn more about Baby’s “imperfections” and then see, at the very end, just why it’s the “most important object” in the “whole universe.”

You’re not a kid anymore, Sam, and I can’t keep treating you like one. Maybe I got to grow up a little, too. I don’t know if we got a snowball’s chance. But… But I do know that if anybody can do it… it’s you.

Dean gets the second best line in Supernatural Season 5, Episode 22. When Sam talks about Dean letting him say yes to Lucifer, Dean brings up an important point. Sammy may be Dean’s little brother but he’s not a kid anymore. It’s time for Dean to accept that.

This episode takes us back to the beginning. We see how this relationship has developed. They’ve been on opposite sides of an argument many times but one thing has never changed — that brotherly bond has always been there. Now, Dean makes it clear that he has full faith in Sammy icing the Devil.

You go find Lisa. You pray to god she’s dumb enough to take you in, and you – you have barbecues and go to football games. You go live some normal, apple-pie life, Dean. Promise me.

Sam and Dean always had a promise. When something happened to one, the other would go on and live the apple-pie life. Dean didn’t want to, but Sam forced him to promise. By making the promise, there was no way that Dean could break it.

What I love the most about this line is that despite everything, Sam looks out for his brother. He wants to make sure Dean has a life after all is said and done.

This is the stuff that’s important. The army man that Sam crammed in the ashtray – it’s still stuck there. The Legos that Dean shoved into the vents – to this day, heat comes on and they can hear ’em rattle.

Chuck continues his story about the Impala. These weren’t just lines to share a little about the car. They were important lines for the brothers’ bond and foreshadowing for the end of the season.

I love that this line continues about the beauty of the car. Chuck brings up the point about Dean rebuilding it. All the imperfections were kept because they were essential elements that made the car part of the family.

Hey, ass-butt!

In an emotionally heavy episode, there was a need for some comedic relief. Castiel gave us that. He and Bobby turned up to help stop the Devil and Michael. Castiel, armed with his Molotov cocktail, said this one simple line.

It’s something that we, as a fandom, have come to use over and over again. When we say this line, every single member of the SPN Family (well, those who have watched up to Supernatural Season 5) understand the line. There’s no way it couldn’t be included on this list.
