First appearance: “Dark Wings, Dark Worlds” (Season 3, Episode 2)

Last appearance: “The Queen’s Justice” (Season 7, Episode 3)

Why we miss her: Lady Olenna Tyrell was a fan favorite throughout her run on Game of Thrones. Her scheming behavior and sarcasm perfectly explained why she was nicknamed the “Queen of Thorns.” The character even gave the great Dianna Rigg four separate Emmy nominations for her performance.

Olenna Tyrell served as the matriarch of House Tyrell and was the mastermind behind most of their power moves. She relocated to King’s Landing to serve as a confidant for her granddaughter, Margaery. While there, she also spent a lot of time with Sansa and became an ally to the young Stark.

Olenna spent a lot of time trying to protect her family, especially after Margaery and Loras are arrested. After Cersei caused the death of multiple members of House Tyrell, Olenna joined forces with Daenerys as an act of revenge on the Lannisters.

Olenna’s best scene, and arguably one of the best overall scenes within the entire series, came in the first half of Season 7. After Jaime’s army infiltrated Highgarden, he confronted Olenna and offered her a painless death through poison.

Before she passed away, she took the opportunity to reveal that she was the one who killed Joffrey at the wedding. In the end, Olenna wanted Cersei to know who was responsible for her son’s death.

And let’s not forget this remarkable message Olenna gave to Daenerys:

"“The lords of Westeros are sheep. Are you a sheep? No. You’re a dragon. Be a dragon.”"
