By Reed Gaudens
Captain Marvel star and Academy Award winner Brie Larson makes her directorial debut with Unicorn Store, and it’s now streaming on Netflix.
Move over, Katniss Everdeen and Alicia Keys. There’s a new girl on fire, and her is Brie Larson. After winning an Academy Award in 2016 Best Lead Actress for her breathtaking performance in Room and making history with the smash-hit superhero pic Captain Marvel, Larson’s finally and rightfully having a real moment. The Oscar winner follows up all of her deserved success with her directorial debut Unicorn Store, which begins streaming on Netflix on Friday, April 5.
Larson pulls double duty in Unicorn Store as director and the leading star, as she plays a starving artist named Kit in the film. When Kit receives an invitation to mysterious store that has the ability to fulfill her childhood dream of getting a unicorn, she winds up getting much more than a unicorn. For fans of Brie Larson and heartwarming comedies, the latest Netflix original film premiere serves as a true no-brainer. You don’t want to miss out on this one.
Unicorn Store boasts an insanely talented cast, including the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Joan Cusack, Bradley Whitford, Karan Soni, Hamish Linklater, Martha MacIsaac, and Ryan Hansen. The film completed production in 2016 and first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2017. Advance reviews from this screening have the film holding an impressive 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (so far), though that figure could certainly climb higher with its official release on Netflix.
