7. Ser Barristan Selmy

The role he’d take: Lord Commander of the Kingsguard

Why he’d be worthy: There is one man who comes ahead of Jon Snow when it comes to Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. I know many of you may have wanted Jaime Lannister, but it’s all about Ser Barristan Selmy.

This is a man who has proven his loyalty time and time again on Game of Thrones. He’s served kings that he doesn’t agree with, purely because of the oath he’s taken. This is a role he takes seriously and he will protect to the death.

The only reason Barristan left the Kingsguard was because Joffrey dismissed him, something that Joffrey shouldn’t have been able to do. This gave Barristan a chance to make a new choice – to fight for pride and honor. He did that by joining Daenerys, and he made it abundantly clear that he would remain loyal to her until the very end.

In fact, Barristan died protecting her and living up to his word. You want someone who is loyal, brave, and honorable in the position of Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and that’s exactly what Barristan offers. There’s no doubt that he’s the guy you need in this position.
