It’s another Sunday night without a new episode of The CW’s Charmed. When will new episodes return in April 2019?

Sunday nights are usually all about Supergirl and Charmed on The CW. Last week, there wasn’t a new episode of either due to the CMAs on CBS, but this week there’s no new episode either. What’s going on and when will new episodes of the CW’s Charmed return in April 2019? We have all the details.

There isn’t a clear reason why the show is taking a week off but it’s likely to do with scheduling for the May Sweeps, which starts on Apr. 25. This is the time when Neilsen collects information that helps the networks with scheduling their shows and companies decide on advertisement investments for the new season. So, the networks will want to air as many new episodes as possible during this time.

Of course, May is also when the majority of shows will air their season finales, especially the fall shows. Charmed‘s finale date has been set for May 19, 2019. There are just five episodes left of the season but six weeks left to fill, so The CW needs to add in a break. Why not off the back of another week without a new episode instead of partway through the string of final episodes?

There’s some excellent news, though. Charmed will return with an all-new episode next week, Apr. 21. It may be Easter Sunday but The CW is taking a risk. It’s a big risk and I think there will be a big dip in the views (while the target audience may not be bothered about it being Easter Sunday, families will likely be going away and that affects the ability to watch live).

Next week’s new episode will be “The Replacement,” which sees Chloe Bridges take on the role of the Charmed Ones’ new whitelighter and she’s not as friendly or as calming as Harry.
