A source says that Star Wars Senator Palpatine may have been still involved with the dark side from the most unusual place.

At the end of the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer, a familiar maniacal laugh breaks the darkness before the title page comes on screen. Many fans of Star Wars instantly recognized the laugh to belong to Darth Sidious aka Senator Palpatine. To squash all doubt, actor Ian McDiarmid went on the stage of Star Wars Celebration after the trailer, solidifying that the longtime enthusiast of the dark side who was thought to be dead, would be reprised in the upcoming film.

The last we heard of Senator Palpatine was in Return of the Jedi. We were made to think that he died when Darth Vader redeemed himself to save Luke and threw Palpatine into the deep shaft of the Death Star, moments before the whole thing explodes.

One could recover after a fall like that (even though the damage would be brutal), but the explosion that followed was too catastrophic for anyone left on the death star to survive. And yet, Palpatine is alive and well, many years later. There are are so many questions that come

to mind but none so important as what Palpatine has been up to in the many years that he’s been gone.

A source has told We Got This Covered that Palpatine obviously survived the fall but was gravely injured. Palpatine allegedly went on to recover and made a home of the damaged Death Star floating in the ocean that is seen in the trailer.

Other than healing and training for his comeback, Palpatine supposedly had a hand in controlling Snoke. The heroes of Star Wars IX will have to visit the Death Star to defeat Palpatine once and for all.

Since the news dropped of Palpatine’s return, theories have emerged that he could be a force ghost or some other likeness without a body. Others have suggested that Snoke was Palpatine’s host or he has a clone body. But if Rey and Finn are really headed to the Death Star to find Palpatine, their plan is telling of Palpatine’s current state.

Since it looks like he hasn’t moved since the Death Star fell in the ocean, and the good guys are coming to him, it may mean that he’s not able to get around like he used to. He may be an immobile man in a husk of a body that’s been causing chaos by using the force from a distance.

As the brains behind Snoke and the manipulation of Kylo Ren, it seems that Palpatine may just be the resident bad guy in the final film of the trilogy. I suspect that Palpatine had his hands in several places so there could be others that have been following orders and maybe we’ll get a few surprise disciples.

If Star Wars truly intends to bring Palpatine’s story arc full circle though, they may want to bring back Vader’s force ghost and Luke’s. Because if this Sith Lord survived a fall through a reactor and a fall from space, they’re going to need all the help that they can get.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be in theaters in December 2019.
