The Kid Who Would Be King is now on blu-ray and DVD. Is it worth the purchase?

Many have tried and failed to give audiences a fun and entertaining retelling of King Arthur. Whether it’s the cast or story who fail to impress, we’ve yet to encounter a worthy movie to add to our collection. Enter The Kid Who Would Be King, the latest attempt. Did it fail? To an extend, but here’s why movie fans need to give it a second chance.

The Kid Who Would Be King premiered in theaters to horrible figures and did not attract much of an audience. Checking out a movie for the first time on blu-ray or DVD, however, feels like less of a risk. You are, after all, paying the same price for the physical copy as you would to watch it at the movies once. And, if you want to take even a smaller chance at it, rent it online or at Red Box.

This movie is severely underrated, and if you ask me, it doesn’t deserve it. The Kid Who Would Be King is charming and packs a powerful message young audiences can relate to and need.

The movie stars Louis Ashbourne Serkis as Alex Elliot, a young boy who has his life turned upside down when he successfully pulls excalibur from a stone. Alex confides in his friend Bedders to help him find out what is going on, as events get even more strange with the arrival of Merlin (who is disguised as a teenager himself).

New to the story of Arthur? The movie does a fine job catching new audiences up to speed without coming off as preachy or overbearing. Once introductions are over, The Kid Who Would Be King speeds up the pace and dives straight into the action.

Already familiar with the popular story? Expect to see many fun twists to give the tale a fresh spin.
