Big Brother contestants survive first episode of The Amazing Race 31

Three teams of former Big Brother houseguests are competing on The Amazing Race Season 31. The first episode of the season aired this week and all three Big Brother teams survived.

Big Brother houseguests keep popping up during seasons of The Amazing Race. That has continued during the 2019 season, as six former houseguests are trying to win the $1 million cash prize. Victor Arroyo, Nicole Franzel, Janelle Pierzina, Britney Haynes, Rachel Reilly, and Elissa Slater all survived the season premiere on April 17. Now they only have to beat out seven other teams of past competitors from Survivor and The Amazing Race to win the show.

The first episode was an introduction of the 11 teams as they made their way to Japan. In addition to making their way around the cities, two challenges were placed in front of the teams. One involved scaling a slippery man-made mountain in a park and the other involved guessing which shoes were real or made out of chocolate.

The challenges were pretty easy when compared to what has taken place during past seasons of the show, but that’s typically what happens in the first episode. This is how the audience gets enough time to familiarize themselves with 22 people within the new cast. It almost wasn’t enough time, though, as the one-hour episode seemed a bit rushed and could have been better done with two hours.

Who went home on The Amazing Race 31?

Arturo “Art” Velez and John James “J. J.” Carrell went home during Episode 1 of the season. They simply couldn’t get the last challenge done and had to take a four-hour penalty. That allowed Rupert and Laura Boneham to catch them at the end. Art and J.J. had been on Season 20 of The Amazing Race. Rupert and Laura are from seasons of Survivor.

Big Brother survives to Episode 2

The second episode of the season will air on Wednesday, April 24. It begins at 9/8c on CBS, following the next new episode of Survivor. The three teams of former Big Brother houseguests will try to make it another week on the reality competition show.
