14. Madam Secretary

Number of seasons: 5

Network: CBS

Why it’s in danger: CBS’ Sunday night show isn’t doing particularly well in the ratings. Apart from the Saturday night RansomMadam Secretary is the lowest-rated in terms of the demo. It sits 19th out of 25 shows when looking at the total audience.

This isn’t great news. A couple of saving graces may be that the show has only lost 9% of its average demo and 11% of its average audience from Season 4 and it still remains a strong show in its particular timeslot.

A renewal now will depend on whether the network believes there’s hope for the series. The fact that it is rated lower than the network’s Friday night shows isn’t a good sign. CBS may look at a couple of other better performing TV shows and move them to the last Sunday night timeslot.

Alternatively, this may become a timeslot for a new show. Sundays proved well for freshman God Friended Me. Having another new show following on from that and then NCIS: Los Angeles (assuming the latter is renewed) could be a calculative move.

Chances of renewal: There are a few reasons to keep Madam Secretery on the air. The writing is on point and character development is good. However, the ratings may not be good enough to justify it.
