Supernatural Season 14, Episode 19 wasn’t an easy episode to watch. Whether you agreed with the Winchesters’ decisions or not, it was hard to see everyone at this point. But there were some excellent lines and here are my five favorite from Jack in the Box.

There’s no denying that Supernatural Season 14, Episode 19 was a hard episode to watch. “Jack in the Box” saw impossible decisions being made for the sake of humanity. As Jack continued to struggle without a soul (or maybe with just a tiny bit of his soul left), Dean acted out of grief by doing the one thing many hate him for.

While it was a difficult episode to watch, there were some excellent lines from the night. Here are my five favorite lines from the penultimate episode of Season 14.

We got a second chance with her. And we got to know her not just as “Mom,” but as someone who was tough and strong. Stubborn as Hell. Someone who had opinions and wasn’t shy in using them.

Dean gave such a beautiful eulogy for Mary. It’s this part of the whole speech that stands out for me. Despite everything that happened over the last couple of seasons, he only had good things to say about his mom. He was happy to have seen her as a hunter.

For years, Dean thought he’d got his stubbornness and his hunting skills from his dad. Even when he met Mary in the past, he still didn’t see a lot of himself in her. Yet, as he got to know her properly as a hunter, he was able to see so much more of himself. He could see where he got his stubbornness and need to save the world from.

After all the arguments and the fights, after all that disappointment, he was happy that he’d got to know the real Mary. She was stronger and different to the make-believe version he or any of us had got to see up to this point.

A hunter’s memorial, complete with monster. Mary would’ve appreciated that.

Castiel has an excellent line after the funeral. After all, no hunter’s memorial would be complete without a monster. This moment showed that Castiel had got to know Mary well. He’d known what she would find ironic but laughable at the same time.

Plus, Apocalypse Bobby took a step back and realized it for himself. It was clear that they all found the situation humorous in some sort of way.

And now that Heaven has its hooks in him, we don’t have a choice.

I think this is the point that I knew there was now way that Dean would change his mind during Supernatural Season 14, Episode 19. It wasn’t that he didn’t think Jack could be saved but more that Heaven’s grasp was too strong. He didn’t trust what Heaven would do to the kid. This was the turning point for him and it does say a lot about the whole situation.

No, it — it was me, but I didn’t want this no-soul thing to become an issue between us. I guess I snapped.

Poor, Jack. Everything was an accident and we know the Winchesters have made these types of accidents in the past. To be honest, Jack reminds me a lot of Sam at this point. The difference is that we got to see Sam’s situation play out for longer. We had the time to see how Dean would come to regret decisions.

This line from Jack told me that he was sorry in his own way. He couldn’t control his powers and he was asking for some help, but at the same time, he felt like he shouldn’t need help. He is a Winchester.

Yeah, but long shots are kind of our thing.

Sammy takes the final line from the episode. Saving Jack would be a long shot but when have the Winchesters ever not pushed for a long shot? This was that moment that showed Sam was still the one looking for some way to help Jack.

In a way, I wished the scene could have changed slightly. I would have loved for Sam to point out that he wouldn’t stop looking for a way to help restore Jack’s soul. That would have made more sense than reluctantly joining Dean, especially after this line. But never mind. What we have is what we have.
