Box office: The top 10 movies before Avengers: Endgame takes over
By Sandy C.
The Curse of La Llorona is at the top of the box office, it seems moviegoers were in the mood for a scare, what other movies made it to the top 10? The numbers are in!
Box Office Mojo has updated the top 10 movies chart with the most popular movies of the weekend. Which movie did you go check out? Two new movie debuts made it to the top 10: The Curse of La Llorona and Breakthrough. The horror flick better enjoy its time at the top, though, as Avengers: Endgame arrives this weekend.
Despite its poor scores at Rotten Tomatoes (33% from critics and 57% from fans), The Curse of La Llorona gathered $56.5 million worldwide, $26.5 million of this total domestically, and $30 million overseas. That’s not bad at all for an R-rated movie with a reported $9 million budget.
With more poor reviews coming in for La Llorona and more films releasing soon, it’s likely a sequel won’t follow. Not to mention, this movie’s total is the lowest a Conjuring Universe entry has achieved. Then again, Hollywood never fails to surprise us.
More from Box Office

- Meg 2: What happened to Suyin? (Why isn’t she in the movie?)
- Dumb Money soundtrack: Which songs play in the comedy?
- Hunchback of Notre Dame live-action remake release updates and everything we know so far
- Barbie 2: Is a Barbie sequel happening?
The big disappointment of the week is Roxann Dawson’s Breakthrough, which collected only $11.1 million domestically. Even when you add its international numbers, $5.9 million, the total is still a lower-than-expected $20.5 million.
Also on the top 10, you’ll find Captain Marvel at $9.1 million. Instead of the MCU chapter sinking lower next weekend, though, it may just go up! This has been seen before, audiences learn about a movie and decide to check it out, with how Captain Marvel ties in to Endgame, fans may want a rewatch or simply watch all things Marvel.
