Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 2 delivered some important moments for the next four episodes. Can Daenerys be the bigger person in all this mess?

There’s no doubt that Game of Thrones is a bit of a mess when it comes to the Iron Throne. There’s a new claim to the throne. Even if Jon doesn’t want it, there will be people who will always side with him regardless. Daenerys knows this. Can she be the bigger person moving forward?

With only four episodes left, it’s clear that the fight for the Iron Throne has to come up at some point. Well, that’s if Westeros remains standing after the Night King is finished. Daenerys believes that she is the right person for that throne but there will be others who think otherwise.

As Dany put it to Sansa, there are people who refuse to follow either of them simply because they are women. Game of Thrones is set in a time when men had the majority of the rights. Sure, there are some feminist men out there but the majority of them would choose a man over a woman. We saw that when Jon wanted Sansa to be the Queen of the North but the Northerners were behind Jon, despite his lineage being assumed illegitimate.

Daenerys knows that if word got out that Jon was her nephew, there would be a fight for the throne. Whether Jon wants it or not, people will side with him because he’s a man. Plus, he’s the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, the older brother of Dany. Male or female, a child of Rhaegar would always have the stronger claim to the throne than Dany.

Yet, I’m not sure she can be the bigger person in all this. She’s fought for this throne for so long that she views it as hers. There’s never been someone else of Targaryen blood to go up against her since Viserys was killed. She’s not had to wonder whether people would follow her because of another legitimate claim.

When Sansa brought up that the North wouldn’t want to be ruled by a Southern queen, Dany tensed up. Just as the two were finding common ground, they were against each other once more. That bond that was starting to form quickly shattered, as it was clear that the North probably wouldn’t follow Dany. But they’ll probably follow Jon.

I’m not sure there’s going to need to be a fight for the throne. One (maybe two) of three things will happen:

  • Westeros kingdoms will split
  • Either Jon or Daenerys will die
  • Jon and Daenerys will marry and join their claims together

Dany probably won’t have to be the bigger person, which is a good thing. She will want that throne after working so hard to get it all this time.
