Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington’s identity was revealed last night on The Blacklist, but fans have been left wondering if they should believe what they have been told due to all the plot holes.

Fans were promised answers to the story arc of who is Raymond “Red” Reddington and that is exactly what fans received in last night’s episode of The Blacklist, “Rassvet.” Or at least that is what it looks like on the surface. Fans have spotted some plot holes in last night’s episode, leading them to wonder if they should believe what they have learned or not.

It’s certainly something The Blacklist would do; give us a story making us think one thing, only to learn later that the story meant something else, which is the nightmare we find ourselves in whenever we learn something new in the NBC series. It’s also a credit to the overall writing in the series.

On the one hand, fans have accepted it. Ilya has taken on the identity of Raymond “Red” Reddington. However, on the other hand, some fans just aren’t buying it and the odd plot holes here and there aren’t helping.

The biggest plot hole fans have been pointing out is the burn scars on Reddington’s back. We saw this way back in the earlier seasons, either the end of Season 1 or beginning of Season 2. I can’t remember for sure.

If Ilya became Reddington, why the hell did he get the scars put on his back? He only needed to change his face to fool the banks. Not his entire body. Unless the banks have some very weird and super creepy security checks that require you to get naked, it just doesn’t seem plausible that Ilya would have gotten the scars on his back.

Now there could be an explanation to all of this. For example, we have always assumed they are from the house fire when in actual fact they might not be. They might be similar but Ilya, while posing as Reddington could have gotten them at some point during one of the many adventures we have heard about throughout the series.

Fans have also pointed out how some of the things Reddington knows about Katarina is not actually possible. Such as the flashback episode we had of Reddington remembering what happened in the beach motel the night before Katarina died.

Ilya was not there when that happened, so if Ilya is, in fact, Reddington, then how does he know what happened that night? He was still at the Russian embassy at the time.

There are a few other bits and pieces fans have pointed out on social media that just make it seem unlikely that this story is what it seems. Pieces of the puzzle are clearly missing.

Now, we got a hint of that at the end of the episode with Reddington confronting Dom. He wanted to know exactly what Dom told Liz.

So, what are the pieces of the puzzle missing? Well, that’s a downward spiral of confusion and headbanging. Because when you come up with one answer it conflicts with another.

For example, the idea of the burns on the back of Reddington. Some fans are convinced that only the real Reddington can have these burns. If that is the case, then the story we have been told is rubbish. Reddington is in actual fact alive. However, if he is alive, then who did the bones belong to? The DNA is Reddington’s so what is the truth?

I’ll go back to my original point. The Backlist has done an amazing job with their writing. The writers leave us wondering if what we have been told is believable or not and if you go looking for the answers, they’re not easy to come by because it just leaves you with more questions needing to be answered.
