Life after Avengers: Endgame: What’s next for the MCU?

Marvel’s Infinity Saga has concluded. The end of an era closes with Avengers: Endgame, but there are more Marvel Cinematic Universe chapters still ahead!

If you’re thinking there won’t ever be another movie you look forward to as much as all the MCU movies (particularly the first Avengers, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame), I agree. Or I did, at first. But I decided to take a note from Captain America’s book and look on the bright side. There are still active heroes in the MCU I very much love and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Spoiler alert! Before we take a look at upcoming MCU movies, please note there are huge spoilers ahead if you are not caught up on the franchise and have yet to see Avengers: Endgame in theaters…

Spider-Man

First up, there’s our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to premiere in theaters this summer, July 2. So, thankfully, we don’t have to go very long without a Marvel movie after watching Endgame. It will be interesting to see how Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has moved on from the recent events we’ve witnessed.

Fans also have a few questions about Spidey. Such as, what happened to his classmates? Did those who vanished in the snap reappear to find everyone else 5-years older? Peter’s bestie, Ned (Jacob Batalon) looks the same, was he a victim, too? What about M.J.?

Spider-Man: Far From Home also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, and others.

Black Widow

Is this movie still happening? Marvel fans are all still in the dark. Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) dies in Endgame, so if a movie on the character is made, it has to be a prequel. Is there enough interest on a prequel? For me, there definitely is, but it’s up to Marvel to decide.

The movie already has Cate Shortland as director and a few cast members as well, which include Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour. Even before Widow’s death, though, the movie has been rumored to be a prequel. Will we finally get to see Black Widow and Clint Barton’s Budapest adventure they talk so much about? Filming has yet to begin, but will supposedly start this summer, aiming for a release in 2020.

Doctor Strange 2

Let’s not forget, the Doctor still needs his sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Stephen Strange. Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor will also star. The movie is looking at a release date in May 2021.

Black Panther 2

Another movie looking at the year 2021 is Black Panther 2. We are all very interested to learn what Wakanda has been up to since the Endgame events. Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright have both been confirmed to return.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Now this movie, we have all been waiting for. The journey to Vol. 3 has been giving us whiplash (and heartache) after director James Gunn was fired and then rehired to create the movie. Everyone is happy he is returning to the director’s chair, though no one more than the cast.

Because of all the controversy, the movie will no longer shoot for a 2020 release date. It is now believed Vol. 3 won’t hit theaters until 2021 at best. More than likely, Guardians will search for Gamora in the movie as it was hinted in Avengers: Endgame. But there’s still the question of Thor joining the gang.
