2. Jess comforts Felix.

Two characters who have both been on Murphy’s best and worst sides come together for a quiet scene in which Jess comforts Felix about the death of his Uncle Ralph. The entire scenario becomes even more sad after meeting Felix’s mother and hearing him talk about how his uncle was the only person who actually made him feel seen.

Jess and Felix haven’t had much interaction prior to this and I thought this was a worthwhile, touching moment between the two. It speaks to Jess’s nature that she truly cares for people, even helping Felix make a sandwich and offering him a hug. Sometimes that’s all you need.

1. Murphy finds out she isn’t pregnant.

Thank GOD. Murphy is the absolute last person who needs to be pregnant. Her reckless behavior is indicative of someone who isn’t ready to be a mother. She can barely take care of herself most days. Plus, I do not think she and Max are ready for what that would bring to their relationship, which is already balancing on thin ice as it is.

However, her timing of realizing she has her period comes at the worst (or maybe best) moment. She was in the middle of revisiting the floral shop she found out Tyson worked for, a place she discovers is actually a drug dealing front.

After excusing herself to the bathroom, a guy comes in and shoots the florist/dealer dead. He was Murphy’s only real potential lead on Tyson. The assailant almost catches her too as he goes into the bathroom, but Murphy is smart enough to climb up on the toilet (with poor Pretzel!) and hide until he leaves. She does finally get to touch a dead body, and it’s just as horrific as one might expect.

Odds & Ends

  • Darnell and Jules are going strong with Jules risking her career to tip Darnell off about the cops and Darnell risking his life if his boss, Nia, were to find out. She ominously talks about having “eyes everywhere” outside of prison so he better be careful.
  • Tyson is officially dead. His body is found in a marsh by some teenagers at episode’s end, meaning when Murphy found him, he was still alive but unconscious. Also, hate to point out that all black characters on this show are either dead or corrupt, I hope that changes moving forward.

A new episode of In the Dark titled, “Tyson”, premieres May 9th at 9/8c on The CW.
