A dark comedy starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini? Consider me sold. When you hear the premise of Dead to Me your weekend is about to be booked solid.

Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini is a duo I didn’t know I so desperately needed but after watching the trailer for Netflix’s newest dark comedy, I knew I would be 100% in. I’ve been looking forward to Dead to Me for several months now and I’m pleased to announce the entire first season has finally arrived!

Applegate plays Jen, a recently widowed woman who is struggling to keep herself afloat. She visits a support group to talk to other people in similar circumstances and there she meets the free-spirited Judy (Cardellini) whose fiance passed away. The two women form a bond that makes up the basis of the show.

While the trailer doesn’t tell us much in terms of a plot, Judy is teased to have a dark secret of some kind. James Marsden also stars in the series, though I’m not entirely sure who he plays yet. In one clip, he tries to warn Jen about the “chaos” that follows Judy around.

What struck me most about the trailer is just how cynical the humor is. I’ve always been a fan of dark comedy, particularly when it features women. In one scene, Jen takes a golf club to a vehicle.

Recently, Christina Applegate went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote the series. She described it as a “suspense thriller” in addition to being a dark comedy that will make you “have feels”.

Applegate also teased that no one is who they seem to be. It sounds like this will be the perfect show for people who are fans of Mom on CBS or even Gone Girl and A Simple Favor. I’m looking forward to seeing how this story plays out.

In addition to Christina Applegate, James Marsden and Linda Cardellini, the series also stars Ed Asner, Luke Roessler and Sam McCarthy.

"A powerful friendship blossoms between a tightly wound widow and a free spirit with a shocking secret in this darkly comic series."
