The Into the Badlands season 3 finale was one for the ages as major deaths closed huge chapters, but the cliffhangers will fuel the #SaveTheBadlands campaign.

It’s finally here. The day none of us wanted to come. What is possibly the final episode of Into the Badlands.

Since Sunny first rode in through the poppy fields on his chopper this show has been special. Into the Badlands has consistently offered us amazing cinematography, fight choreography, vibrant wardrobes, powerful women, and painted a picture of a post apocalyptic future with amazing diversity. The entire cast brought it every week in every way. There’s no doubt that Into the Badlands will achieve cult classic status in the years to come as more people find the show through streaming platforms.

When we left off last week, a final showdown was being set up.

Battle preparations

At the start of the episode, The Widow presents Sunny with Waldo’s sword. We then see the titular 7 standing on a cliff overlooking their troops. Sunny, Kannin, Tilda, Bajie, The Widow, Moon, and Gaius.

After a commercial break we see Pilgrim preparing his troops to “cleanse the Badlands once and for all.” He sends his people to find believers and kill anyone who refuses to come. MK then emerges to tell the newly made dark ones how to control their gift. He tells them to find the darkness inside of them, channel their pain and let it give them strength. His speech works and they all go dark.

Sunny holds Henry to tell him what he’s about to do but that it will all be over soon. The Widow asks Sunny if she should be bringing a child into this world and Sunny says it’s the only thing worth fighting for.

Back in the temple of Azra, Cressida shares her doubts with Pilgrim about his plan. She feels that mass murder is not what they were setting out to do in the beginning. That’s when Pilgrim tells her that it’s time for her to accept the gift and she steps away from him. She says she’s a high priestess and he tells her he’s her God and to prepare herself to receive the gift later.

As the back and forth continues, we watch our seven prepare their weapons for battle. The group splits up. Sunny, Kannin, and Bajie are to take the Black Lotus to fight at the museum. Moon steps up to join them because he wants Cressida. The remaining three are to go to the Meridian Chamber to destroy the machine.

On the way, The Widow, Gaius and Tilda come upon a nomad camp. Pilgrim’s people are killing everyone. We see men, women and even a baby among the dead. At least one person has been ripped in half. They’re not holding back at all.

At the chamber, we see Pilgrim give the gift to more believers. Cressida waits anxiously as a kid steps up and says he doesn’t know if he wants the gift. He asks for forgiveness and Pilgrim suffocates him with his hands alone. “There are only two sides: the blessed, and the damned.” Cressida tells him the gift is a choice, it cannot be forced on anyone. He approaches her, angry, but just then they’re alerted that Sunny and his crew are on their way.
