Could Beta Ray Bill introduction mean a replacement for the Guardians of the Galaxy?

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is on deck as the next cosmic flick involving Thor. Now, Beta Ray Bill is suppose to pop up in the third sequel. Could this mean an introduction to The Annihilators?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is up and coming, with James Gunn brought back on board to work for Marvel Studios. According to a source with We Got This Covered, Beta Ray Bill is said to be in this flick. As some comic book fans may be wondering, how close to the graphic source material could be to this character should they make an on-screen adaptation of the Korbinite? (Not to be confused with the substance that Han Solo was frozen in).

His image was already seen in a Mount Rushmore type of set-up in Thor: Ragnarok when approaching the arena. That said, this seems to tease his presence in the MCU as this looks to represent that he was one of the major champions under the liege of The Grandmaster. Certain questions come to mind here.

Marvel Studios has a rule of 3?

Enter The Annihilators per the Marvel Comics. This group was the replacement for the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on the same role as a cosmic superhero team-up. I can’t help but wonder if Marvel Studios has some kind of rule of three when it comes to sequels. Basically, I wonder if they intend on not going beyond three sequels per solo movie in their corresponding franchises.

So far I think there have been three: Thor, Captain America, and the Iron Man flicks. You could say there were three instead of four Avengers flicks if you could count Infinity War and Endgame as one. I can’t help but think that Annihilators will refresh the cosmic team-up in some fashion post-GoTG. A passing of the torch…an ending of an era.

A Beta Ray Bill Origin Story?

It’s interesting comparing the comic book lore to the possibilities to an onscreen adaptation of any character. Notably, Beta Ray Bill was the first ever character to be able to wield Thor’s hammer. Of course, we already have two in the MCU that took on that honor. Also, Beta Ray Bill’s signature weapon was indeed Stormbreaker, the new weapon of Thor’s in the MCU. It’s interesting how the cinematic version plays a shell game with its character’s.

I have to wonder should Beta Ray Bill make his way into the MCU, will he be a straight injection into Guardians of the Galaxy 3 or will they tell us his story prior to all that? His face on the wall of fame on Sakaar in Ragnarok teases a little bit of that , don’t you think? Since it looks like Thor joined the Guardians a la Endgame, do you see him encounter Beta Ray Bill?
