The Village

I didn’t want to put The Village on the list, but it needs to be added. Unfortunately, it’s just not performing as well in the ratings as NBC likely wanted it to. After all, it was touted as perfect for This Is Us fans and the network likely expected it to take off just like the Pearson family series.

One thing that hasn’t helped is all the timeslot changes. It started in the last slot of Tuesdays then moved to 9 p.m. and now starts off the night – going up against NCIS! While it is sandwiched between renewed shows, NBC is going to want to start making some room for new shows and that means something has to be canceled. Since it’s the lowest-rated midseason drama, it makes sense for it to be canceled.

Whiskey Cavalier

The final show on the list and the final ABC freshman show is Whiskey Cavalier. It’s another show I’m surprised performed so poorly with Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan in the lead. However, it’s possibly the promo that caused the problem. It certainly didn’t give us a true indication of the type of show we’d be watching.

While I expected a dramedy, I didn’t expect an over-the-top spy drama. Whiskey Cavalier was one of those crazy guilty pleasure dramas and should have been properly promoted as such. CBS is doing exactly that with Blood and Treasure premiering later this month and I, personally, can’t wait for it because of that.
