Game of Thrones 805: Will Varys be executed for treason?

Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5 is going to see the Battle of King’s Landing. There will be deaths but will Varys be one of them? Will Varys be executed for treason?

We’re into the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones. It’s time for the Battle of King’s Landing and that means we’re getting to the point of more major deaths. One of those is likely to be a member of Daenerys’ Small Council. Will we see Varys executed for treason?

After the events of the last episode, Dany is certainly on the path of becoming the Mad Queen. She will stop at nothing to get revenge, even if it means executing anyone standing against her who was once on her side. Varys is one of those at risk.

For one, he’s mostly a dispensable character now. When it comes to a penultimate episode, dispensable characters tend to be killed off. After all, Varys right now is really only needed to build up support for Jon – also known as Aegon Targaryen – to put him on the throne.

The seeds of theory were sown in the last episode. Tyrion and Varys discussed whether Dany was the right person to be on the throne and Varys, as he has always done, decided to put the people of Westeros safe. He wants the right person for the people on the Iron Throne and, in his eyes, that’s Jon Snow. Even if it’s treason against Daenerys, he’ll go through with it.

It looks like he will go through with it, too. There’s an image from Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5 that shows Varys and Jon speaking. It looks like he’s secretly showing his support or maybe letting Jon know that people have found out about the truth of his lineage.

This is Game of Thrones and secrets don’t stay secret for long. Dany will find out that Varys is a turncoat. She’s going to need to make an example against all those who decide to support someone other than her, and what better way than executing Varys?

However, at the same time, it’s going to show Jon the type of person Daenerys is, the type of queen she will be. He’ll have no choice but to face against her to protect the people of Westeros.

In short, I don’t think Varys will survive Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5. He’s going to end up executed for treason by Daenerys Targaryen. Of course, if you want to know, you can always check out the leaks to see if your theories are working out but beware of spoilers there!
