Now streaming: Netflix’s dystopian teen drama The Society
By Mads Lennon
Netflix’s new dystopian teen drama, The Society, is now available to stream. Find out everything you need to know about the series before watching here.
Netflix’s latest series is a show that feels like it was stolen straight from The CW. The Society is a dark drama about a group of wealthy teenagers who are forced to figure out how to survive on their own after everyone else mysteriously disappears.
Netflix has started to make a name for itself in the teen drama game. With recent rom-com releases like The Perfect Date and The Last Summer plus shows like13 Reasons Why, it’s clear the streaming giant is interested in building on its young audience.
I’ve been intrigued by the premise of this show since it was announced. I’ve seen critiques call it The Lord of the Flies, except with a bunch of spoiled teens, which seems an apt comparison. And instead of being on an island, these teens are actually “transported” to an exact replica of their town, just with no parental figures.

It feels like the media has become obsessed with the idea of a large chunk of the population disappearing these past few years, what with media like Avengers: Endgame and The Leftovers. Now The Society will join the ranks of shows about a group of people struggling to stay alive after losing the people most important to them.
I wonder if the entire thing will turn out to be an elaborate social experiment? Or maybe aliens? The trailer strikes a gritty and realistic chord but I could see sci-fi elements being introduced. It has all the ingredients of a perfect binge show.
The cast is composed of some new and familiar faces too. It features two Blockers stars, Kathryn Newton and Becca Gleb, Rachel Keller from Legion, Pamela Adlon’s daughter, Gideon, Sean Berdy from Switched at Birth and many more (this cast is pretty huge which makes me think there might be a high death count…).
You can watch the official trailer and read the synopsis for yourself right here:
"When everyone else mysteriously vanishes from their wealthy town, the teen residents of West Ham must forge their own society to survive."
