For the People series finale preview: Will Roger and Jill break up?
By Mads Lennon
On the series finale of For the People, Jay must investigate a case of election tampering while Jill and Roger assess their relationship.
I’m sad as I write this preview, as I’m sure fans of For the People are equally unhappy reading it. ABC has elected not to move forward with season three of this Shondaland drama. That means tonight’s finale will be the series finale unless the show gets picked up by another network.
Unfortunately, the odds of For the People finding a home elsewhere don’t look good. ABC never properly promoted For the People and it never managed to find a large fanbase. I don’t think there is a big enough audience to warrant another network saving it. It also doesn’t have much critical attention and zero awards recognition, which could have helped save it.
As it stands, tonight’s episode will be the last one. At least it appears it’ll be a great one! Let’s hope it doesn’t end with any massive cliffhangers.

Last week’s episode ended with a confrontation between Jill and Sandra that could change the entire environment at the public defenders’ office and the prosecution office. Sandra feels betrayed by Jill after she goes behind her back to settle on her case with Roger.
Once Sandra realizes Jill is romantically involved with Roger, she wonders how she can trust that Jill made the best decision for her client, or simply because Roer offered it. She goes on to call all inter-department relationships into question, including her friendship with Kate.
We’ll see the aftermath of this scene in the finale. The trailer teases a somber conversation between Roger and Jill. If their relationship is to continue, one of them will have to leave their job.
Sandra and Ted will take the next step in their relationship too. I’m guessing Sandra’s downward spiral will continue, and she will seek comfort with Ted. Does that mean they’ll become romantically involved by episode’s end?
As for the legal cases this week, Jay discovers a security guard was hired to disrupt polling during an election. Jay’s parents and other voters were harassed and intimidated to persuade them to leave the polls. It appears Allison will be assisting Jay on this case.
Seth gets a high-profile case this week too, but the stakes are more intense than he anticipated when he gets assigned a bodyguard.
Check out the official trailer and episode synopsis right here:
"On Election Day, Jay turns to Kate and the team for help after his parents and other voters are illegally intimidated at their polling place. Meanwhile, Roger and Jill’s relationship is at an impasse when Sandra learns that they are romantically involved and challenges Jill’s judgement. Elsewhere, Seth gets assigned to the case of a lifetime, but his anxiety increases when he is appointed a bodyguard to help protect him, all while Sandra and Ted take their relationship up a notch."
