No. 7 – The Battle of King’s Landing: Part One

When: Season 8, Episode 5

What Went Down: Whereas the latter half of this battle is somewhere on the bottom of this list, the first half is really killer TV. Now that Daenerys has learned not only of the existence of Qyburn’s mega scorpions, but also how they work, she is easily able to attack from the sun, swooping Drogon down in a blind spot to easily torch the entire Iron Fleet and all the dragon-killing weaponry on the ramparts of King’s Landing. Then, in a triumphant fireball, she uses Drogon to explode open the front gates of the city, clearing the path for her armies to sack the city. This is the moment viewers have been waiting for since those baby dragons hatched back in Season 1. This is where Daenerys takes back what is rightfully hers… but then the bells ring and it all goes south for the winter.

No. 6 – The Ultimate Power Move

When: Season 7, Episode 7

What Went Down: When it comes to traveling in style, there’s nothing that trumps a dragon. So when Daenerys and her allies attend a meeting with Cersei Lannister in the dragonpits of King’s Landing, she arrives fashionably late. Drogon flies in and lands gracefully on the edge of the ruined walls, leading almost all of the meeting attendees to stare, agog at the wonder of the dragon. Except Cersei. Cersei is not impressed. Daenerys elegantly steps away from her ride, and confidently strides over to her seat, ready to start negotiations. Purpose completed, Drogon springs effortlessly into the sky, leaving nothing but a strong wind in his wake.

No. 5 – A Dragon is Not a Slave

When: Season 3, Episode 4

What Went Down: Thanks to the power of her growing dragons, Daenerys gets to have it both ways when negotiating for an army of Unsullied warriors. She agrees to trade the slaver Kraznys mo Nakloz (Dan Hildebrand) one dragon for eight thousand men. But Khaznys drastically underestimates whom he’s dealing with, and he pays for that stupidity with his life. When Daenerys hands over Drogon, she begins shouting commands to the Unsullied in Valyrian. The doofus Kraznys barely has time to be surprised before Daenerys tosses off one more Valyrian word: Dracarys. Drogon torches Krhaznys in one of the most satisfying deaths on the series, and after a sack of the city, Daenerys and her newly acquired army and three tweenage dragons lay waste to the city, marching out as a band of individuals, free from tyrannical rule.

No. 4 – Enter the Dragon(s)

When: Season 1, Episode 10

What Went Down: After almost ten full episodes of dragon foreshadowing, we finally meet three little scaly guys in the final moments of the Season 1 finale. Having lost her true love Drogo, Daenerys has nothing to lose. The remainder of her loyal khalasar help her build a pyre to burn Drogo’s body, making sure to bind Mirri Maz Duur (Mira Soteriou) – the witch that was responsible for his death – to the structure before setting it aflame. Despite pleas from her loyal advisor Jorah Mormont, Daenerys walks into the center of the blaze with her three dragon eggs. In the morning, Jorah awakes to find his Khaleesi in the middle of the ashes, cradling a trio of baby dragons in her arms, marking the beginning of a new era.
