Tyrion poses two major problems.

How in the world was Tyrion permitted to speak? It really doesn’t make much sense for two reasons.

Problem #2: Tyrion holds no power.

Mere moments before this momentous occasion, where lords and ladies from across the land come to deliberate Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister’s fate at the Dragonpit, where virtual unknowns and nobodies with titles get a say in such a world-changing decision (sit down and STFU Edmure Tully), there sat Tyrion, alone in his cell. A nobody.

Based upon his ragged appearance, he had been isolated for weeks. Given the amount of time it must have taken to gather all the VIPs at one event (notwithstanding Game of Thrones time travel issues), multiple weeks makes sense.

All this time Tyrion has been a prisoner of the Unsullied and the Dothraki. His appearance suggests he wasn’t abused, but also wasn’t treated in the manner to which he is accustomed. Nonetheless, he’s not only permitted to speak, he’s allowed to wax poetic about the virtues of stories and history. To preach a gospel on Bran’s behalf. This is like the movie trope where the prisoner fires the crooked attorney and speaks on his own behalf while wearing shackles.

Sorry, but it’s stupid. Lazy. They would have laughed at him the way they did at Sam.

Problem #3: Tyrion holds no moral sway.

The debate could have been terribly complex, but it ended up just being Tyrion talking. All these important, or self-important, people came to King’s Landing to make a powerful decision, and they’re listening to the least respected Lannister, completely disheveled, in chains, and fresh off being the Hand of the Queen who slaughtered thousands because “she couldn’t even.”

Again, they would have told him to shut his imp mouth since he was just recently the second in command to Daenerys Targaryen.
