When will Station 19 Season 3 premiere on ABC?
Station 19 Season 3 is officially happening. When will we get to see the new season premiere on ABC? There’s some bad news about the date.
Station 19 Season 3 was confirmed in May, just ahead of the Disney Upfront Presentation. It was exciting to hear but it was quickly followed by bad news. That bad news affects when Station 19 Season 3 will premiere on ABC.
At the Upfronts, ABC announced its fall 2019 schedule. Fans of the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off were quick to point out that it was missing off the schedule. Sure enough, ABC has decided to hold the series to the midseason.

That means we don’t have an exact premiere date. Nor do we get an idea as to when the show will be with us. After all, midseason shows can premiere in January but they can also be held for later in the year. During the 2018 Upfronts, Grand Hotel was a freshman show announced but it’s still not even premiered!
We’re likely looking at sometime between January and March 2020 for the third season. It will depend on the length of season A Million Little Things gets, which is taking up the post-Grey’s Anatomy timeslot after seeing success in it during the midseason in 2019.
Station 19 will likely keep its Thursday night timeslot. It fits after its parent show, especially since there are so many crossovers between the two.
Why it’s being held for the midseason isn’t entirely clear. It could be due to season length – I’ll be honest and say a shorter first season did work better than the longer season we got for Season 2. It could also be due to Krista Vernoff taking over the reins. She is also the Grey’s showrunner so may want to ease her plate by having the firefighter spin-off as a midseason series.
