The most disappointing thing about X-Men’s Dark Phoenix
By Sandy C.
Both critics and fans have not been kind to Dark Phoenix, but the biggest disappointment has not yet been mentioned.
There’s a grill happening over at Rotten Tomatoes, as critics and fans roast X’Men’s latest and final chapter in the franchise, Dark Phoenix, to no end. With a score of 23% rotten, Dark Phoenix is the worst-reviewed movie in the series.
My take? It has some of the best action and fight sequences in the franchise, but overall there’s too much to hate about it to make the movie enjoyable. In particular, there’s one big turn off in Dark Phoenix. And it may not be what you’re thinking.
Before you proceed, here are a few things to know. Yes, I will mention a very disappointing spoiler. Is it a huge spoiler? For a few, maybe. Will it ruin the movie for you? Not at all. No big plot points, deaths, or story hints will be spoiled.

Another thing to know, especially if you’re a new reader, is that I don’t take things too seriously. I tend to write fun features that highlight insignificant (to some) storylines just for laughs. So no, the below isn’t a groundbreaking discovery or a big letdown for the majority of X-Men fans. Ready?
The most disappointing thing about X-Men’s Dark Phoenix is the severe lack of Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff aka Quicksilver.
It’s no secret Evan Peters has a massive fan base, mostly due to his work in the American Horror Story franchise. Loyal fans always support the actor’s work and love his scenes in the X-Men movies. Who doesn’t?
In the movies X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men Apocalypse, Quicksilver steals the show with his iconic slow-motion sequences. The one in Days of Future Past had all fans talking. Little did we know, we’d get another one in Apocalypse, and it’s equally (if not more) amazing as the first. Not that you need a refresher, but watch it below:
Am I biased or are these scenes some of the best in the entire franchise? Peters’ performance even sparked an interest in Quicksilver solo movies.
With two Quicksilver slow-mo scenes, fans assumed it was now tradition. Well, turns out it isn’t. But, not only did Dark Phoenix not include a Quicksilver solo, it barely features the character at all! Why is the actor touring with the main cast promoting Dark Phoenix when he only has a few lines and no more than 3 or 4 scenes? The disrespect, I tell ya!
Sorry to disappoint fans of Evan Peters, but Dark Phoenix does not feature the actor’s talents nearly enough and you won’t get to see much of him.
Dark Phoenix is in theaters Friday, June 7, but has early screening beginning this evening, June 6. Will you be watching?
Are you disappointed to learn Quicksilver isn’t a big part of this movie or was he never a favorite of yours?
