There are connections between John Wick and Bruce Lee.

Whether it’s coincidental or subconscious it doesn’t really matter: there is a link between John Wick and Bruce Lee. There are multiple parallels done so brilliantly that Bruce Lee would have approved.

Game of Death

One of Bruce Lee’s more famous movies, Game of Death features a five level pagoda with a fighting challenge on each level. As one ascends, so does the difficulty. Ultimately there was supposed to be a great prize on the top floor, but it never really materialized.

More from Movies

If that doesn’t sound a bit like the multi-floored hotel in John Wick, then it definitely shows a connection in the glass levels John Wick climbed, got thrown and kicked sideways through, descended with a crash onto floors below, and ultimately dispatched his foes within.

For added measure, John Wick even defeats a giant in this film. And wouldn’t you know it? There was also a 7-ft. enemy on Game of Death: Kareen Abdul-Jabbar. What are the odds of a 7-ft. villain and a multi-tiered building of death being in both movies? Slim to none. In fact, the two movies being compared may be the only two. Speaking of the building, there is another very obvious Bruce Lee connection.

Enter the Dragon

The multiple walls, floors, ceilings, and unnecessary accouterments all made of glass made vision quite tricky. In fact, there were multiple moments in which the enemy was difficult to see. If that’s not an obvious homage to the mirror battle in Enter the Dragon, then I don’t know what is.
