4. Wanted

Original Release Date: Wanted premiered in theaters on June 27, 2008.

Box Office Earnings: The film opened at No. 2 in its opening weekend behind WALL-E with a first weekend gross of $50.9 million. It was a close head to head against the Pixar hit only distancing itself by $13 million to Wall-E’s $63 million.  A thrill of an action film, the movie Wanted ended up profitable with $134 million domestic total gross surpassing its $75 million dollar budget.

Critical Acclaim: Wanted surprised critics with a great review stunning a stylish popcorn action flick that delivered with the help of Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman.  A 71% certified fresh, with a 69% audience score, Wanted meshed a fraternity filled with assassins with Matrix-like action scenes that proved to be something the audience never knew they wanted.

About the Role: James McAvoy plays Wesley Gibson, a frustrated accountant office worker that knows he has more to offer than just being an average joe.  When approached by Angelina Jolie, he realizes he is the son of a former professional assassin and that like his father shares this ability to become a stealth trained killer.

Simply the Best: After Atonement’s hit, McAvoy was a perfect choice to star opposite Angelina Jolie in this over the top entertaining action flick.  His persona clashes extremely well with Jolie’s character and his character’s bloody and grueling training actually plays well off McAvoy’s acting skills.  One of his top-rated movies, this was clearly the right choice to open doors to future projects and also showcase his skill set beyond acting.
