We’re currently freaking out about that shocking twist at the end of In the Dark’s penultimate episode. Read the full episode breakdown here.

Every week, In the Dark gets better. I have to say I haven’t been this blown away by a television twist in a while. For all my theories about who was involved in Tyson’s death or who could be his killer, I never expected this twist!

We still don’t have all the answers yet, obviously, so there could be an additional twist, or perhaps things don’t look as bad as they seem but for the moment, my jaw is on the floor.

Happy birthday, Murphy

It’s Murphy’s birthday and she’s fondly looking back on some of her earlier birthdays, such as the one before she went completely blind. Her parents had a tradition of taking her to the roller rink every year. But more than having her sight, Murphy misses having the people she loved most in her life.

After last week’s episode, Murphy is feeling particularly isolated and alone. She spends the bulk of her day at the bar, as is typical. Nia pays her a visit. She claims she had nothing to do with Tyson’s murder and she’s tired of Murphy winding up in the center of all her business. It’s a thinly veiled threat, sure, but it also appears Nia may be the wrong person to finger for this crime. Murphy seems to think so.

Conversing with Nia has only further confused her. She meets with Tyson’s mother again to gain a little clarity. I think she needed to find closure from the only other person in the world who truly feels the loss of Tyson’s death. Tyson’s mom helps Murphy realize that her fixation is unhealthy. She is able to get through to Murphy in a way no one else could and finally, Murphy feels herself letting go.

Instead of spending the rest of her day alone, she meets up with Dean and he takes her to the roller rink! It’s a sweet moment, especially because Chloe, Murphy’s parents, Felix, and yes, Jess, all show up for her. Jess and Murphy reunite, Jess promises to move back in ASAP and Murphy actually seems happy for once.

For a moment, we see the world through her eyes and it feels warm and peaceful. Dean and Murphy even share a kiss after Murphy confronts him about what Chelsea told her (that Dean is crazy about her) and Dean doesn’t deny it. Wow, is Murphy going to get a happily ever after? Not quite…

Jules makes a shocking discovery

Determine to prove Darnell’s innocence, Jules continues to investigate the Tyson case. She and Murphy discuss the fact Wesley received the gun after Tyson was already shot and the conversation Nia had with Murphy.

Even though Murphy has decided to take a break from the intensity of the investigation, Jules is still on the trail. She eventually follows Nia to see who she’s meeting with and realizes that the person has a gun holster, meaning they’re a dirty cop.

She recognizes the holster as the standard one they all have at the precinct. Then we realize the suspicious timing of Nia’s meeting. Someone else had an arrangement at that same time, Dean.

We get a slow camera pan following Dean back home with Jules theory playing in the voiceover. It’s a shocking twist but does that mean Dean killed Tyson? If he didn’t, he certainly had a hand in framing Darnell! Next week is going to be one crazy finale.

Odds & Ends

  • Jess and Vanessa get some closure at the bar. Confronting her ex-girlfriend for showing up in “her” bar, Jess demands to know why Vanessa was calling her. Turns out, it was an accident. Vanessa was merely removing Jess from her favorites and hit the button by mistake. Could these two reconcile in the season finale?

The season finale of In the Dark airs next Thursday on The CW.
