SPN Family PSA: It’s not a competition!
Being part of the SPN Family isn’t a competition. There are no “true fans,” except those who just love anything about Supernatural. Can we stop arguing?
You’re not a true fan if you don’t know this obscure line from Supernatural Season 7. You’re not a real member of the fandom if you don’t go to the conventions. Erm, excuse me? Being part of the SPN Family is not a competition!
Being part of any fandom is meant to be fun. It’s meant to be about connecting with people who love the show for whatever reason. Some members of the SPN Family love to see the actors. Others just want to put on an episode now and then and relax. Some want episodes with just the Winchesters and others want to see side characters get more attention. Can we please just stop arguing?

For my SPN Family PSA today, I just want to shout loud and clear that fandom isn’t a competition. There’s no need to argue about things that, actually, have no meaning on our lives in general.
You tuned into Supernatural on the very first day? Great for you! I’m sure the 15-year-olds currently watching for the first time would have loved to have been able to be there for the show when it began but they were babies. Don’t forget the show has been going on for that long!
Managed to get to every Creation Ent con this year? Great! I’m glad you had fun but some fans are just trying to keep a roof over their heads and put food on the table and can’t spend the extortionate amount that Creation Ent charges for its conventions.
That member of the fandom who can’t remember the exact episode Bobby Singer died in Season 7? Well, they may have problems with their memory or they just have so much else going on that Supernatural isn’t the be-all-and-end-all of their life. That knowledge is great for some random pop quiz but knowledge of an obscure law may be necessary for their jobs instead.
Can we try not to make other fans feel bad because they don’t act the exact way we do within the SPN Family? The fandom isn’t a competition. We don’t need to say who is a bigger fan because, honestly, a fan is a fan is a fan. We all have a different type of love for the show and we all found it for different reasons. Can’t that just be enough?
That’s my rant over for the day! You can all go about peacefully!
