Scream season 3 is finally greenlit: Everything you need to know
By Ivan Mora
After close to 3 years off the air and the future of the show in shambles, VH1 comes to the rescue to resurrect Scream with a fresh reboot.
Scream last had a theatrical release with Scream 4 back in 2011 and due to a less than stellar performance at the box office that opening weekend, no more Scream productions were announced.
That was until 2015 when MTV picked up the idea for a Scream series. A fresh new outlook on the Ghostface killer, MTV’s adaptation took a life on its own including a more grounded and original mask. It was a quick hit when the first season came out that it was automatically renewed for a second season including a Halloween special. It ran from June 2015 – October 2016. A third season was always in the works shortly after, but was never released on the small screen.
That has now changed, giving Scream fans everywhere what they longed for. A new network has stepped up to the plate taking over and will now be its new temporary home releasing a six-episode season airing on back to back to back nights.
From July 8 – July 10th, VH1 will air the Scream third season entitled “Resurrection.” The new season will feature a new cast, new showrunner, and new producers.

Queen Latifah is entering as an executive producer. The new cast includes Keke Palmer, Paris Jackson, Tyga, Tyler Posey, CJ Wallace, and Mary J. Blige. Apart from now being on a new network, the series will depart from the Weinstein Company and VH1 executives will oversee the majority of production. The original Ghostface mask is also set to return in this new season debuting this summer.
While there is still an opportunity Blumhouse brings Scream back to the big screen, especially after Jason Blum’s latest comments
"Yes, we definitely have discussed it. We’re looking. There’s nothing happening with either one of those two things but we’re definitely looking at it, and it’s definitely something I’d be open to."
