Shark Week returns to Discovery, Serengeti to follow
Shark Week celebrates its 31st anniversary later this month on Discovery. Don’t miss out on the exciting shows, followed by the new series, Serengeti.
Shark Week is back for its 31st year. After the Great Whale-sized celebrations for its 30th birthday last year, you probably thought things couldn’t get any better. Well, they will, as Shark Week is back at the end of this month, followed by the new series Serengeti.
Everything begins on July 28. There will be 20 hours of programming spaced throughout the week. The best thing is that it will be available worldwide, wherever Discovery has a channel. This is a chance for young and old to learn more about the sharks around the world, including protecting and understanding them. You can also watch across the digital platforms and experience many events through the social media platforms.

Rob Riggle is back in the waters after taming sharks with Shaq for the 30th anniversary. This year, Discovery is teaming up with Oceana, making sure sharks are protected. Many are no endangered, often due to the global shark fin trade and trophy hunting, as well as due to the landfill entering the waters around the world. It’s important to understand more about how sharks help the underwater environment to help preserve them.
The full release of content during Shark Week hasn’t been shared yet. However, we do know that we’ll be going from water to African land, as Discovery brings new series Serengeti on Aug. 4, straight after the conclusion of Shark Week.
Lupita Nyong’o will narrate the series and will tell the tales of the Serengeti wildlife over the course of six episodes. It’s time to head to the unspoiled corners of the African plains, seeing how the animals interact and live over the course of a year. All music on the series is original, by Will Gregory, with Lola Lennox and many others providing the vocals, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
If you only watch one week of Discovery programming a year, this is the week to tune in. From water to land, you’ll see animals in their natural habitat and learn things you never knew before.
