24. Elite

Synopsis: This Spanish Netflix Original offers a mixture of Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl. When three friends from the working class end up at an elite school, you know things aren’t going well. However, nobody probably quite expected the death of a student.

In a world full of lies and deceit, the students all face the fact that one of them killed this student. Yet, with secrets of their own they want to keep quiet, they all look just as guilty as each other.

Why it’s worth watching: Unlike Pretty Little Liars, you don’t really get to know the main characters in Elite. The Netflix Original makes you think you know them, but anything they say could be a lie. As they try to fit in with each other and keep their own secrets, you’re taking down various rabbit holes, trying to figure out the murderer and why everyone else is lying.

This is the perfect series for those who need a dark thriller. While it’s a teen drama, it certainly brings in some mature subjects. The series offers diversity and reality, while taking you through the roller coaster ride of social status and disrupting the status quo.
