After the 2019 Emmys nominations announcement, who were the biggest snubs from the field?

This morning, Ken Jeong and D’arcy Carden announced the nominations for the 2019 Emmys. HBO and Game of Thrones were the big winners as the network accumulated 137 total nominations including a record-breaking 32 from Thrones.

However, for every triumph, there are a group of networks and shows who were snubbed from the field. Here are the biggest snubs from the 2019 Emmys Nominations!

Julia Roberts and the entire cast of Homecoming

Over the last few years, movie stars have been taking their talents to television as the rise in streaming has dramatically increased. Look at the entire cast of Big Little Lies and Amy Adams in Sharp Objects as prime examples. However, when Julia Roberts decided to dip her toe into television, the entire entertainment world took notice.

Roberts starred in Amazon Prime Video’s Homecoming, a psychological thriller about the effects of PTSD that debuted last November. The series was met with instant critical acclaim and Roberts, her costar Stephan James, and the series were all nominated for Golden Globes. However, the Television Academy was not so kind to Roberts and the series as Homecoming only received one Emmy nomination for cinematography. Despite the disappointment, Roberts had the perfect reaction to her snub on Instagram.

Richard Madden for Bodyguard

Fans of Bodyguard are both happy and sad after the nominations were revealed. On one hand, Bodyguard became the BBC’s first series to be nominated for an Outstanding Drama Series Emmy in nearly 50 years. However, the show’s star, Richard Madden, who is in nearly every scene, was omitted from the lead acting category in a drama series. It’s strange considering Madden won the Golden Globe in the same acting category.

Rhea Seehorn for Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul is coming off a highly praised fourth season and the Television Academy rewarded their outing with an Outstanding Drama Series nomination and acting nominations for Bob Odenkirk, Giancarlo Esposito, Jonathan Banks, and Michael McKean.

That being said, Rhea Seehorn was egregiously snubbed for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series. Seehorn is arguably the heartbeat of the show, but she could not avoid the Game of Thrones freight train as four actresses from HBO’s series snagged four of the six available spots.

Stephen Dorff in True Detective

True Detective made its return to HBO this past January after a rocky and confusing second season. The good news is the third season captured some of the magic from the first season as the majority of the reviews were positive. Mahershala Ali, fresh off his Oscar win for Green Book, received an Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited Series Or Movie nomination. However, his costar, Stephen Dorff, was omitted from the list entirely. Dorff’s turn as Ali’s tough, but complicated partner won both audiences and critics over. However, it wasn’t enough to earn a nomination.
