7. Melrose Place

Who’s in it: Josie Bissett, Thomas Calabro, Doug Savant, Grant Show, Andrew Shue, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Daphne Zuniga, Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton, Marcia Cross, Jack Wagner, Kristin Davis, Brooke Langton, Rob Estes, Lisa Rinna, Kelly Rutherford, David Charvet, Alyssa Milano

What it’s about: A spin-off of Beverly Hills, 90210, the primetime soap follows the sordid exploits of a group of 20-somethings that live in the same apartment complex in West Hollywood, California. Melrose Place centers on the residents as their lives intertwine in unexpected and sometimes explosive ways as they clash in love, sex, and ambition. The series, which quickly became known for its soap opera twists, spanned seven seasons and 226 episodes.

Why you should watch: If you’re on board with Dynasty’s craziest storylines, from fake marriages to literal new faces, there’s a lot more where that came from on Melrose Place. Back in the ’90s, no one did crazy plot twists like Melrose Place, and all of those deaths, explosions, and scandals are still captivating television. Not to mention, the series gave Dynasty star Grant Show his breakout role on one of the small screen’s biggest hits.

Also of note, Dynasty and Melrose Place were both executive produced by Aaron Spelling, with the latter series getting a revamp in the midst of its first season to match the the melodrama of the earlier hit. Just as Dynasty exists as a reboot of a primetime staple, Melrose Place launched a short-lived reboot in 2009 that featured Laura Leighton, Heather Locklear, Thomas Calabro, Josie Bissett, and Daphne Zuniga reprising their iconic roles.

Where you can watch: All seven seasons are available to stream on Hulu and CBS All Access.
