The Boys is brilliant, especially at ripping into DC Superheroes
By Callum Gunn
The Boys says it like it is, so; F**k Supes! The R-Rated Amazon Prime Original is a masterpiece in so many ways and gives us a whole new look at superheroes.
It’s been one of the most highly anticipated TV shows of 2019, and for a good reason as well. When I first heard about the Amazon Prime Original series at New York Comic Con last year the theme was very clear. The Boys would be unlike anything else we had ever seen before and our view on superheroes would never be the same again.
Because all superheroes are essentially d*cks and use their powers to grow their own personal wealth rather than help those who need help. Hence the motto from The Boys, “F**k Supes!”
This has been made clear in the lead up to the Prime Original. If you check out their social media feeds you will see time and time again clear evidence that superheroes are not to be trusted and in fact, they use their super powers for evil.

Thing is, while it’s clear in the run up to The Boys, that The Seven, who are the heroes of the world by the way, are in fact not really heroes but massive douches (except for one of them #NoSpoilers) it is not very clear from the very get go how evil they really are.

It takes a few episodes to get into, showing how The Seven are not superheroes. What is clear, is how each one of them is awesome at ripping off the DC Universe superheroes.
Quick heads up, if you want to avoid the spoilers and work out who is who for yourself the don’t read any further.
OK then, here we go.
So, The Seven are as follows:
Homelander
Probably the easiest of The Seven to connect to the DC Universe, he is pretty much Superman. With the red and blue super suit and cape, he does everything Superman can do from his flying, laser beam eyes and super strength. He is also slightly like Marvel’s Captain America as well, because he is all about America and sports the stars and stripes on his cape.
Queen Maeve
100% the double of Wonder Woman, not only does she have super strength, her costume is almost identical to one of the best superheroes in the DC Universe. The only thing she is missing is the shield, sword, and lasso of truth. Oh, and the invisible jet.
A-Train
He is the fastest man in the world, a proper speedster who can outrun bullets, a definite rip off of The Flash. A-Train sports a blue suit rather than The Flash’s traditional red, but other than that he is pretty much Bally Allen.
The Deep
A superhero with a thing for dolphins and doing fancy dives into the big blue, The Deep is no where near as cool as Jason Mamoa Aquaman, but that is certainly who The Deep is impersonating.
Black Noir
I’m telling you right now, you are going to be left gobsmacked at how amazing a dialogue this character has. Honestly, it is just amazing. Black Noir is probably not the most obvious character you can connect to the DC Universe, but it is possible. Batman is the obvious one, but you can also make few other connections as well.
Translucent
The Seven has an invisible man among its ranks, just like the X-Men did in the form of Wraith. Translucent will be the main focus for a large chunk of the series so have fun seeing his explosive time on-screen.
Starlight
One of the most important and interesting characters in The Boys, Starlight is the newest member of The Seven and ultimately makes the biggest impression out of all the supes. Comparing her to characters in the DC Universe and the obvious is Supergirl. However, Starfire also comes to mind as well.
The brilliant thing about the show is while The Seven are the main superheroes in the Prime Original there are many other supes out there as well. There is one with claws that come out of her hands, kinda sounds like Wolverine, there is also a former member of The Seven who sounds oddly like the Green Lantern as well, but I’ll let you decide that for yourself when you watch the series.
Have fun watching The Boys when it arrives everyone. It really does live up to all the hype and remember; F**k Supes!
