Legacies: Is Lizzie getting a new love interest in Season 2?

Legacies Season 2 is still a couple of months away but news about the season has begun trickling out. Could Lizzie be getting a new love interest?

It’s SDCC weekend and that means tons of new information about all your favorite shows and movies is going to come out over the next few days. TVLine has the scoop on a new casting addition to the second season of Legacies, which is due to premiere on Oct. 10, 2019.

Thomas Doherty, who you’ll recognize as Harry Hook from Disney’s Descendants, has been cast as a very old vampire that Lizzie takes an interest in. It sounds like he may have some outdated ideas about the way the world works.

Previously, Lizzie’s love interests have consisted of Rafael, who was too hung up on her sister to pay her much attention. MG had a crush on Lizzie in Season 1 but it seemed to mostly fizzle out by the end.

Season 2 will see Lizzie moving on. Could it be with Doherty’s character?

Hm, it’s possible, although Doherty is described as “very old.” Julie Plec gave an interview last year about how the romance would differentiate on Legacies from The Vampire Diaries. In her own words, while speaking with TVGuide, she said:

"“There is something deeply romantic in that gothic and harlequin romance kind of way, and deeply inappropriate if you look at it through another lens,” Plec said of The Vampire Diaries’ romances. “And now, in 2018, there just is only one lens in my opinion in this moment, and I’m cool with that… So it’s actually we’ve tried to be a little bit just socially responsible for the moment."

So it seems strange for Plec to suddenly go back on her word about not having massive age gaps between love interests. Perhaps Lizzie’s interest in this new character could be unrequited? Either that or something happened to make Plec change her mind.

Honestly, I hope not. I think the age gap is creepy and it was nice to have characters who were dating people of their own age.
