The Fast and the Furious franchise continues. Hobbs and Shaw is now out in theaters nationwide.

The Fast and Furious franchise has come a long way since its humble beginnings of stolen DVD players and illegal late-night street races. Hobbs and Shaw, the series’ first but probably not last spin-off, proves there’s still plenty of gas in the tank.

Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw proved to have such crackling chemistry in The Fate of the Furious that pairing them off in their own buddy action film was an obvious move. The big question going into Hobbs and Shaw is if their funny banter and mismatched natures are strong enough to carry an entire film.

Luckily, if the trailers are anything to go by, this just might be the action extravaganza of the summer. The Fast and the Furious series is known for upping the ante with their action stunts with each passing film, and if there’s one thing the trailers have successfully sold, it’s that Hobbs and Shaw are going to be kicking a lot of bad guy butt in this movie.

But even though both men seem literally built out of iron and muscle in the film, even they are going to have a tough time taking on a literal Superman! Idris Elba looks to be having a blast as the cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton and looks to be the first bad guy that both Johnson and Statham can’t punch into submission. Good luck gents!

Really, anyone who has seen a Fast and Furious film knows that it’s all about family. I mean they only say it about 300 times every single movie. So will the new film continue that theme? It looks like it, as the film is poised to introduce even more members of the Shaw clan with The Crown‘s Vanessa Kirby playing Hattie Shaw, Deckard’s MI6 sister.

Doubling down on the family theme, a major part of the marketing campaign seems to be a climactic third act battle at the Hobbs’ family estate, where our heroes go to get some much-needed assistance. So if you haven’t been paying attention in any other Fast and Furious movie, remember it’s all about family. Or as Vin Diesel says it, Fably.

So overall, it’s clear this movie isn’t going to be some high-caliber Oscar film, but it looks like a completely bonkers action film anchored by two of the best action stars in the world, so yeah, I’m probably going to see it twice. What about you?
