The latest teaser for American Horror Story: 1984 may not offer much in content, but if you look closely there are some important clues on the new season.

The most exciting part about being a fan of American Horror Story is that every season has an entirely different theme. Trying to figure out the next season’s theme is arguably one of the greatest parts about the series. With only a few weeks away from the premiere of American Horror Story: 1984, the subject has already been established as “slasher movie” in nature, and the latest trailer has expanded on what that means

By the looks of it, we’re being transported into the 80s in a Friday the 13th-style horror flick. And Ryan Murphy has covered all the basics of the famous teen slashers of the era. Teenagers are going to camp and looking for a good time, and of course, a crazed killer is lurking behind the scenes. That being said, this season just might become every horror fans favorite for its homage to the classics

The teaser itself is just a glimpse of a very intense scene that is just beginning. A couple of guys arrive at their room for the summer, and one enthusiastic teen with glasses calls first dibs on the top bunk. The girl that accompanies them asks to take a walk as she’s clearly interested in the tall blonde and he makes sure to let his roomie know that he’s not invited. The bespectacled roomie asks them to wait for him, but the couple has already set off without him.

The roomie looks out the door longingly as if he wishes he could join them and then closes the door behind him when he goes back into the room. The closed-door exposes the masked killer with a blade in his hand. The scary part is that he’s been hiding there waiting the entire time. Will the roommate left alone in his bunker make it out alive? We’ll have to find out when AHS returns in September.

It might not seem like much, but there are some things we can guess will play a significant part in AHS: 1984. Here’s what we know from this teaser trailer:

1. Friday the 13th will be a major theme

Although we might see variations on themes from different slasher movies, Friday the 13th is going to be the most influential one of them all. Not only does the series take place at a camp just like Friday the 13th, but they have a lake that’s surely reminiscent of Crystal Lake. Expect to see night-time swims and boat rides turn into suspicious drownings at the hands of a mysterious killer.

2. The Slasher will be hiding in plain sight

If all goes well, we might be getting a healthy amount of jump scares and even more horror tropes. There might even be times when the audience knows where the killer is, and the unsuspecting teens will not. This, of course, will lead to many fans yelling at the TV trying to warn the teens of their impending doom.

3. It doesn’t pay to be alone

One of the mistakes that characters in slashers often make is breaking away from friends. Much like the roommate in the teaser that’s left alone in his bunker, anyone who goes off for some alone time will be easy prey. It’s common knowledge that the killer shows up every time someone is alone. It’s like they have radar!

4. There will be plenty of couples hooking up

Jason Vorhees hated teens ever since he drowned while all the counselors were hooking up and targeted them ever since. Couples hooking up or setting off for alone time could always count on being Jason’s next victims. In the trailer, there are already two people about to hook up and they just got to the camp! Comparable to Friday the 13th‘s couple stalking, AHS 1984 will likely feature a killer interrupting canoodling.

5. The forest will be the main stage

Now, we only got to see a few lonely trees leading to the lake at the start of the trailer, but I would bet my last dollar that those trees lead to a lush forest in the camp. Dark and neverending, the woods have always been the go-to for chasing unsuspecting teens. It also offers a ton of hiding spots for the killer at large, especially at night.
