In post Civil War Cincinnati, a former slave named Sethe experiences a series of traumatic events. She is assaulted by evil men, terrorized by a malevolent being, and pursued by her reincarnated daughter. The film follows Sethe as she deals with adversity and tries to find peace.

The source material for the film is spectacularly written. Beloved is based on Toni Morrison’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name. Media mogul and Morrison-fan Oprah Winfrey produced the film. In fact, as reported by Vanity Fair, Winfrey was the driving force behind the Beloved film adaptation.

In addition to serving as a producer, Winfrey also starred as Sethe. Her co-stars included Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), Kimberly Elise (Diary of a Mad Black Woman), Thandie Newton (Westworld), and Wes Bentley (American Horror Story) among others.
