The hype is real
The Matrix blasted into theaters as a bona fide hit. It reached the number one spot during its opening weekend and went on to earn over $463.5 million on a $63 million budget. Critics seemed to love The Matrix even more than fans. The film is Certified Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes, with 88% on the Tomatometer.
The plot

The character Morpheus pretty much sums up the complexity of the storyline.
The Matrix depicts a bleak future in which Earth has been scorched by war – a war between humans and machines. Some human survivors settled near the Earth’s core to stay hidden. The rest of humankind became prisoners inside a virtual world, oblivious that they exist inside a mental prison created by machines.
