One of Law & Order: SVU’s most beloved characters, Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), may return once the show comes to an end for a multiple-episode story arc.

Yes, you read that right. Most, if not, all Law & Order: SVU fans may be jumping for joy once they read this article. We may see one of our favorite actors on Law & Order: SVU, Christopher Meloni, reprise his role as Elliot Stabler for multiple episodes. Not soon, though.

Sounding optimistic, showrunner Warren Leight tells TVLine that Meloni appears open to return to the show, but if that happens, it will be in the last season before the series ends. There is still plenty of time for that. I love Elliot. However, I can live without him as I love the new characters Kelli Giddish (Amanda Rollins) and Peter Scanavino (Dominick Carisi).

Don’t get me wrong. I would absolutely love to see Elliot back. However, I don’t see him coming back anytime soon unless the show comes to an end, which we don’t want to happen.

Warren tells TVLine the following:

More from NBC

"With the caveat that the negotiations involved would be “above my pay grade,” Leight says, “Look: I assume that if some year, some decade, couple decades from now, we get to the last SVU, [Meloni] would have to come back before we do the last episode or before the show signs off.”Leight quickly adds: “However, I don’t think we’re at that point in the show’s run.”"

Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson) and Christopher Meloni (Elliot Stabler) had such great chemistry. He was such a badass as well and wouldn’t take any crap. We all miss them kicking butt together. Unfortunately, Meloni left Law & Order: SVU in 2011 due to contract negotiations failing. His character, Elliot, retired from New York City Police Department off-screen in the Season 13 premiere.

Good news though, fans! TVLine reports that a source close to Christopher tells the publication that Christopher is open to returning to the show for a multiple-episode story arc:

"“would very much be interested in returning for a five- or six-episode arc when the series ultimately comes to an end to give fans some closure.”"

That’s very exciting news, especially for a multiple-episode story arc. We definitely have something to look forward to prior to the show ending.
