Season 2 of Legacies will be here before you know it. Here are eight crucial things to remember, in addition to new character details, before it premieres!

If you’ve been binge-watching Legacies on Netflix, then I’m sure you’re dying to find out everything you can about the upcoming second season. For those of you who haven’t watched since the season one finale, you may need a quick refresher before season two begins!

Either way, the following spoiler-filled guide is perfect for all Legacies fans out there. We’re covering the essential moments from season one to keep in mind and all the news we’ve received about the impending season so far!

8. There is a new sheriff in town.

In a recent article I wrote, I talked about Matt Donovan’s status in Mystic Falls. Will he return? We didn’t see much of him in Season 1 and Legacies has officially cast a new sheriff.

More from CW

Bianca Kajlich, Bianca Santos, and Leo Howard have been cast as a family new to Mystic Falls. Kajlich will play Sheriff Mac and with Santos and Howard playing her teenage children, Maya and Ethan. Both teens will have the hots for Hope. It’s unclear if either will be supernatural.

7. Expect more fantastical creatures.

Despite the mystery of the Malivore raging onwards with Hope now part of the muck, don’t expect the show’s format to change. The sophomore season of Legacies will retain its monster-of-the-week formula.

Julie Plec spoke with TVLine about what we can anticipate moving forward.

"“We’ve had conversations about demigods and demons and more fantastical creatures. We’ve also had conversations about creatures with historical implications and literary references.”"

It sounds like the creatures are going to get even more fantastical! I’m excited to see what the writers come up with next.

6. Prepare to meet a British sorcerer.

TVLine also reports a new professor has been employed at the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. Alexis Denisof will play the rugged British Professor Vardemus.

Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel will recognize Denisof as Wesley Wyndam-Pryce. He is set to recur in Season 2 of Legacies and will make his first appearance in the second episode.

5. Lizzie and Josie are both aware of the coming merge.

Born part of the Gemini coven, both Lizzie and Josie will be forced to participate in the merge on their 22nd birthday. Alaric kept this hidden from his daughters for the entirety of their lives, hoping Caroline would find a solution to help them avoid it. In season one of Legacies, Hope forces Alaric to come clean with them.

If you don’t remember what the merge is, it is a Gemini coven ritual. The coven can only be lead by a twin. When the twins turn 22, they must perform an incantation. Their powers will then battle one another. Both twins will fall unconscious.

The loser dies, and the winner leads the coven. In Season 1, Josie also discovers the Ascendant that Bonnie once used to imprison Kai Parker. There is a chance we could see Kai return in Season 2 of Legacies.
