Mindy Kaling’s Late Night movie is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video!
No one knows the struggles of the comedy world like Mindy Kaling, which is part of what makes Late Night so fun! The movie is, as the young kids say, woke, hilarious, and very real. Late Night has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 80% from critics, with many saying the movie needs more wit, but what do they know?
The script is clever, reflecting not only Kaling’s wins and fails in the comedy industry, but everyone who has tried to step into the entertainment business. In Late Night, the focus is late night television, currently ruled by men. The film highlights many issues that are still a problem today, but it never comes off as preachy or feels overwhelming.
Did you see Late Night in theaters when it first premiered? If so, you know the movie is comedy gold. Emma Thompson sprinkles magic throughout with her performance as Katherine Newbury. Her character is full of sass and is unapologetic. Kaling portrays Molly, a new writer on Katherine’s staff packed with ideas that are not always welcomed. The two clash, and you’ll be finding yourself in laughter and tears.
