How many episodes will Westworld Season 3 have?
Westworld is rumored to be releasing the shortest season of its series. How will fewer episodes affect the success of the show?
The wait for the next season of Westworld will soon be over, and you can expect to see the popular cyborg series back on tv early next year. Westworld will finally be returning to HBO nearly two years since its second season was released. But if there is any truth to recent rumors, the third season of Westworld won’t be making up for the long wait with its content.
A trusted source has shared with The Wrap that Westworld season 3 will have a total of 8 episodes– two episodes short of all previous seasons. It’s also unclear how long each episode will be which is now an important piece of information. Once we know how long the episodes are, it will be easier to assess if we’re losing out. Because the producers could always make up for the cut episodes by making the episodes longer as other series have in the past.

And if Westworld is only providing us with eight episodes with no extended episodes to make up for it, the question that remains is why? We may never know why the season is shorter but there is one likely factor that influenced the decision. Westworld received some really disappointing reviews for season 2. After being applauded for their ability to throw curve balls during the first season, Westworld‘s second season was critized for being too confusing. Just maybe for season 3, the creators thought a shorter season would help to bring focus to the series.
Westworld Season 3 follows Dolores as she acclimates to the real world alongside Aaron Paul’s new character, Caleb. We’re also supposed to find out who has been inhabiting Tessa Thompson’s body, what happens to Maeve in WWII world, and how Bernard will stop Dolores this time around. The difference is that now this needs to all be accomplished with less time than previous seasons.
The only thing that’s clear now is the reason why Westworld season 3 will not focus so much on the cowboy theme park. It has been teased that the third season will mostly be based in California and a handful of human-made worlds and obviously there is no time to visit the cowboys with just 8 episodes. Hopefully, the showrunners will get to tell the story without leaving us with more questions than we started with.
